Incense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peel away the patina. Scrape away the hypocrisy of institutional narratives. What you find below is not a library essay\u2014it&#039;s a man who, for the Middle Ages, was practically <em>outlaw<\/em>. One <strong>rock star<\/strong>. Rather, a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ilrickyverso.it\/en\/tag\/metal-cristiano\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"378\">metalhead<\/a> whole wheat.<\/strong> One of those who use words like distorted guitar riffs: not to entertain, but to\u2026 rock!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Today is his feast day. And since Padua is my home, I&#039;ll take you backstage.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Exhausting Tour<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Forget the arenas with catering and hospitality suites. <strong>Antonio filled the meadows<\/strong> \u2014because there was no longer room for the faithful in the churches. Twenty, thirty, forty thousand people. Without <em>PA system<\/em>, without<em> big screens<\/em>, without <em>auto-tune<\/em>. In my opinion, it&#039;s one of the most ferocious punk gestures of the Middle Ages.<br><strong>Rimini<\/strong>. The local &quot;powers that be&quot;\u2014corrupt, heretical, arrogant as only the powers that be can be\u2014decide to boycott him. They turn their backs on him. They order the city to cover its ears. They leave him alone on the shore, talking to the wind.<br>What does a rock star do when the system cuts off his power?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Turn up your voice!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Antonio turned on his heel, walked to the seashore, and began preaching to the fish. It wasn&#039;t resignation. It wasn&#039;t naive poetry. It was a moral slap of cosmic proportions. It was saying out loud, in front of everyone: &quot;If you, rational and free beings, are too deaf, too self-satisfied to listen\u2014then nature has more sensitivity and more dignity than you. It&#039;s the choice not to bow your head when it would be infinitely more comfortable to do so.<br>Here is Antonio who goes to Verona to challenge face to face <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.santantonio.org\/it\/content\/lincontro-con-ezzelino\">Ezzelino da Romano<\/a><\/strong> \u2014one of the bloodiest tyrants of the Middle Ages, a man before whom nobles knelt trembling. Antonio goes alone, armed only with his word. To demand the release of some prisoners.<br>Do you understand the scene? A Franciscan friar versus the most feared warlord in Northern Italy. It&#039;s the stage at the Glastonbury Festival that turns into a trench.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it wasn&#039;t an isolated incident. In Padua, he fought hard against usurers\u2014and not with sermons, but with actions: he secured a change in the municipal statute to prevent insolvent debtors from being thrown into prison. Active compassion. Empathy that translates into concrete action, not a sterile Sunday sermon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beyond the Holy Card<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Words can be an act of healing. But they can also be a challenge, a blade, a guitar riff that wakes you up at night.<br>Antonio sought beauty and justice everywhere. And where he couldn&#039;t find them, he created them with the force of his passage\u2014even at the cost of wearing himself out, of being ignored, of talking to fish rather than surrender to the silence of conformity.<br>So today, looking at the Basilica from across the city, I do only one thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I put out the incense.
