Tony Iommi lost the ends of two fingers on his guitar fretboard hand during an accident in a sheet metal factory. To continue playing, he built homemade prosthetics, adopted lighter strings, and developed lower tunings. These physical demands contributed significantly to Black Sabbath's deep, heavy tone.
